Top Ranked Game Design Major in Texas


Students and faculty are starting to get used to being on the local news!
Once again the Digital Entertainment Technology major at Abilene Christian University was featured on the news. As a top-ranked game design program (#24 as ranked by Princeton Review in 2019), we are excited that the word is getting out about the cool stuff we are making.

The Digital Entertainment Technology major has been at ACU since 2009, with classes taught on game design since 2007.
Class sizes are small (generally under 20 in the major) and the professors know each of the students in the program.

Graduates of the DET major are now at Sony, Gearbox, Activision and many smaller studios.
Students in the major have the opportunity to focus on level design, game scripting, real-time cinematics, 3D modeling, texturing and more.

To graduate, majors must publish their work and have a professional portfolio (you can see samples on this site!)

Have you seen the headlines?
The Digital Entertainment Technology program has been a top-ranked game design program according to the Princeton Review since 2015 (our first year of eligibility).

DET has been a major at Abilene Christian University since 2009, with courses starting in 2007 (when the School of IT and Computing was launched).

Focusing on game design and real-time CGI, the program has been making headlines. You can see the news story here:

In the 2019 ranking, DET was ranked #24 in the international ranking, making the program at ACU the top undergraduate Christian game design major and the highest-ranked program in Texas!
